With the goal of reviving the blues, and the American roots that grew from it, "one note at a time", The Blue Note Revival is far from your typical acoustic act. The main group features guitarist/vocalist Nic Olas, guitarist Kenny Retzlaff, and percussionist Mickey Munoz, but sometimes features other quality musicians filling-in on guitar, saxophone or harmonica. The group delivers a big sound with a small footprint. They’re intimate enough for a listening room, yet lively enough to get toes tapping and hips moving.
Built on rhythm and groove, their sets celebrate the pulse of the blues while branching into Americana, folk, country, and roots rock. From Delta, Country, Gospel, and modern Chicago/Memphis blues to folk storytelling, outlaw country shuffles, swampy Southern vibes, and jam‑inflected Americana, they bring a fresh yet authentic energy to every performance. Covering artists such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Keb’ Mo’ alongside John Prine, Johnny Cash, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the Grateful Dead (with nods to Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks, Son House, and Big Bill Broonzy), The Blue Note Revival keeps tradition alive while widening the circle...breathing new life into American music, one note (and one groove) at a time.

The group is very fortunate to have the highly capable, and always entertaining musicians Harry Muldrow (saxophone), Chris Millspaugh (harmonica), Jim West (guitar) and Alan Gilmore (harmonica) available to fill-in when the need arises.

Front and center, Nic brings soulful vocals and expressive guitar that anchor the band’s blend of blues, roots, and Americana—dynamic, intimate, and always groove‑driven.
Kenny’s tasteful lead work, rhythmic drive, and slide textures add color and momentum, fueling everything from Delta blues to swampy Southern grooves and roots rock.
Mickey’s pulse keeps the music moving with percussion, and compact setups that deliver pocket, feel, and dynamics tailored for listening rooms and lively dance floors alike.
